A Compact Relay Board for Space-Constrained IoT Builds

Relay modules are incredibly useful when you need a microcontroller to control something that it can’t drive directly. They provide an easy way to switch lights, motors, appliances, and other loads from an Arduino, ESP32, or just about any other development board. But hobbyist-grade relay modules can be pretty bulky, which is a problem when you’re trying to squeeze everything into a small enclosure.

Sergio Ghirardelli designed Tiny Contacts to provide the same basic functionality in a much smaller package. It is a four-channel relay board measuring just 42 x 38 mm, making it well-suited to IoT devices, home automation systems, and other projects where space is at a premium.

Much of that size reduction comes from Ghirardelli’s choice of relays. Rather than the chunky through-hole relays found on most inexpensive modules, Tiny Contacts uses four Omron G6K-2F-Y surface-mount relays. These...
