8 in 10 Women in India Skip Job Applications Due to Caregiving Responsibilities: Indeed Survey

Caregiving responsibilities continue to significantly influence women’s career decisions in India, according to a new survey by recruitment platform Indeed, which found that 83% of women respondents had chosen not to apply for a job because they felt the role would be difficult to manage alongside caregiving duties.

The survey, conducted among 1,141 women across major Indian cities including Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, and Kolkata, highlights how flexibility has become a central factor in workplace decisions for women professionals.

Sashi Kumar, managing director of Indeed India, said women remain ambitious but are becoming increasingly selective about roles that align with caregiving realities.

“Employers that offer genuine flexibility and clearer expectations are better positioned to attract and retain them,” he said.

Flexible work hours emerged as the top workplace priority for 53% of respondents while 48% said hybrid or remote work options strongly influenced job decisions. The findings...
