6 in 10 Indian nonprofits use GenAI daily, but their average digital maturity is just 4.4 out of 10

Digital For Nonprofits (D4NP) today released the State of Nonprofits Digitization Report 2026 (SONDR 2026), an assessment of 500 Indian nonprofits across 10 sectors and 20 digital maturity parameters. The findings reveal a sector moving quickly on Generative AI while the underlying digital maturity remains underdeveloped.

6 in 10 Indian nonprofits are using GenAI daily yet the average digital maturity score across 500 nonprofits sits at just 4.4 out of 10, with only 1 nonprofit reaching the advanced stages of digital maturity.

The report identifies five structural gaps:

1. Unclaimed ad credits, every month. Google Ad Grants provides up to $10,000 in monthly ad credit to qualified nonprofits. Only ~75 of the 500 nonprofits studied use it, leaving approximately $5 million per month in free ad credit unredeemed. For organisations that depend on public awareness to reach donors and beneficiaries, this is the most direct gap to close.
