21 Billion Devices and 46 Million Attack Hits: IoT’s Enterprise Test
A security camera is supposed to protect a factory. But if it runs old software and remains connected to the production network, the same camera can give an attacker a way in.
That is not a hypothetical risk. A command-injection vulnerability affecting some Hikvision cameras generated 43 million detection events across manufacturing networks during the first half of 2026, according to SonicWall. A command-injection flaw allows an attacker to make a device run instructions that it should not accept.
The vulnerability was disclosed in 2021. Five years later, security systems were still detecting attempts to exploit it.
The finding captures the problem facing the Internet of Things, or IoT. Companies are connecting more machines, cameras, sensors, vehicles and building systems to improve how they operate. They are also creating more points that attackers can target.
